We ended up leaving Jaipur a little earlier than planned, because we decided to tack on two more cities with noted architectural works. Our architect and interior designer parents would be ever so proud.

This required us to change our train, which was... a bit of a process. The Ministry of Railroads booking site is as terribly designed as Jaipur is hot. When we first started in India it took literally hours of research to figure out how to book a train. By the time we headed to Chandigarh we were pretty good at it, but the switch still required a trip to the local train station to complete.

Chandigarh is a unique Indian city. It was built up to create a new state capital after the partition of India. They wanted to create a statement modern city and they turned to famed architect Le Corbusier to build a master plan. His collaboration with local professionals resulted in a city built on a grid, with specific sectors earmarked for certain types of commerce. The picture of Melissa with a postcard is taken in the medical area where massive pharmacies compete with each other on the same street.

There is a museum dedicated to Le Corbusier and his work on the city. While we were visiting the power went out, which led to the odd experience of reading about the new modern city in the dark.
